I've been working my way through John Pearson's book Mastering the Management Buckets. There's enough helpful information in this book to apply for at least the next five years. One of the things early on that Pearson says that captured my attention came out of the "Results Bucket". He said, "Focus on outside results, not inside results."
I find this to be very helpful advice for church leaders. Too often we are enamored with the "inside results" of, being friendly, maintaining strong relationships, high number of volunteers serving on Sunday morning, etc. According to Jesus, the bottom line is "Are you making disciples?" This means two things. 1) Are we seeing people born again into the Kingdom of God? and 2) Are we making them into disciples? What does it matter how friendly our church is, or how relational we think we are, if these two things are not happening?
If you're not seeing these two things taking place on a consistent scale in your church, something needs to change. Don't settle for inside results only.
