Just Let It Out!

I came across a blog the other day by a guy who calls himself the "Fearsome Pirate". I'm cautiously sending you the link. The guy is crude to say the least, yet he says some pretty good stuff when it comes to changing the way many churches operate. I think he just needed to get some things off his chest! I'd be interested in your thoughts. Here's the link.

Honestly, reading this all I could think of was "Jubilee does good with all this stuff." Maybe I'm just partial, but having grown up going to my grandparents' churches on occation who DID have prayer announcers and such, I think I can honestly say things are much better the way we do them.

I've been in churches with services like that described in this article, where the Bible is not taught, and no one seems to really care about each other, much less visitors. These may be valid criticisms of church services, but I don't think the problem is surface style but a more fundamental heart problem. Singing better hymns isn't going to change anything if your church has the problems described. The leadership of this church would be better off fasting and praying for a couple weeks, and then start teaching what God teaches them.

He has some good points. Perhaps we as the church have grown so accustomed to our own mediocrity that we need people like him, and those who posted on his blog, to shake us up a bit. I agree with Shan - we do much better than most. However, the church is the bride of Christ and as such I believe she deserves a bit more respect than this guy gives. On the other hand, he would probably say that his passion for the Church drives him to expose the hypocrisy, etc, in some churches.

In a purer form, if this guy's list is the criteria, he would love our church. Regarding his message, I have rarely seen such a worthwhile topic so ruined by such a dispassion and irreverence for the church.
