Kings & Trust

"For the king trusts in the Lord. The unfailing love of the Most High will keep him from stumbling." Psalm 21:7

It's an amazing thing to me that a king would trust in anything or anyone outside of himself. After all, he's the king. With the snap of his finger he can have what he wants. But the psalmist speaks of a king who trusts in the Lord. Such trust glorifies and honors not the one who trusts, but the One whom is the object of trust. The Lord, (our Lord) must be an amazing, awesome Lord for a king to trust in him. This thought alone has captured my attention for the past few days.

As if that is not enough to occupy my mind and affections, the mind blowing thing about this trusting king is that the object of his trust in the Lord is not in the Lord's strength, or authority, or wisdom. No, the object of his trust in the Lord is the Lord's unfailing love. Why? Because this wise king knows that the one thing that will cause him to walk uprightly is not a stronger will, a more balanced lifestyle, a deeper wisdom, or even wider authority. The one thing that will cause him to walk uprightly is an abiding trust in the unfailing love of his Lord.

I'm overwhelmed by thoughts of such a trustworthy, loving Lord.

The Value of Joy

The holidays are all about joy. Come to think of it, our salvation is all about joy. That's the conclusion I came to after reading Ps 51:12 yesterday. Here are my thoughts.
  1. Sin steals our joy. David's life lacked joy at this time because of his sin with Bathsheba. If we're not experiencing joy, asking God to reveal sinful acts and attitudes is a good place to start.
  2. If we are not experiencing joy we should be concerned. It's amazing to me how many people go through life treating joy as some sort of extra rather than essential. A lack of joy in our lives is a serious thing to God.
  3. God's salvation, which he extended to us, is characterized by joy. Enough said
  4. It's a very healthy thing to ask God to fill us with the joy of the Lord!
With this in mind I wish you all a very joyous Christmas and New Year.

Reasons For Online Giving

Tony Morgan had a recent post about the benefits they've experienced at Granger Community Church since they began online giving. I thought it was very informative. Here's the link.
